A JOURNEY TO THE ORIGIN OF COCOA
The story of Domori, from the field to the bar
1993
After studying economics, Gianluca Franzoni, founder of Domori, set off on a journey to Venezuela that turned into almost four years of hands-on research in cocoa plantations. It was there that a then-pioneering insight took shape: to rediscover the true value of fine cocoa, guardian of a heritage of biodiversity, culture and aromatic richness still waiting to be brought to light.
1997
Domori takes shape out of that fieldwork. At the heart of the project lies the desire to make the beauty of cocoa accessible and to tell its most authentic story.
Inspired by the two famous Moors of the Clock Tower in Saint Mark's Square, the name pays homage to seventeenth-century Venice, a crossroads of trade and cultures, a meeting point between distant worlds.
2001
An initiative dedicated to studying and showcasing the rarest and most precious cocoa variety in the world.
With Hacienda San José, in the State of Sucre, Venezuela, Domori becomes a direct grower, committed to preserving biodiversity and recovering a unique genetic heritage.
2006
Domori joins the Holding company, which at the time brought together excellence brands from the Food & Beverage world. Gianluca Franzoni stays on with the company and becomes President of Domori.
2011
Domori Professional is launched, the line dedicated to pastry professionals. Dialogue with chefs and pastry masters opens new opportunities to showcase the technical and aromatic qualities of Domori chocolate in outstanding creations.
2017
With Hacienda San Cristobal, in Ecuador, the Criollo Project enters a new phase: a farming model based on precision agriculture and agronomic innovation, complementing the experience gained in Venezuela.
2019
Domori becomes part of Polo del Gusto, the holding company chaired by Riccardo Illy that brings together Food & Beverage businesses united by a shared pursuit of excellence.
2020
In 2020 Domori becomes a Benefit Company, formalizing a commitment that has always guided its activity. That same year, it accesses the financial markets for the first time with a minibond issue aimed at institutional investors.
2021
In 2021 Domori acquires the site of the historic Streglio plant in None. This marks the start of a multi-year industrial redevelopment project that will lead to a larger, more efficient and technologically advanced production facility.
2022
The first Domori Store opens in Piazza San Carlo, Turin. Alongside the boutique, multipurpose spaces host tastings, masterclasses and cultural events, turning the Store into a place to meet and share experiences.
