Domori wins Gold at the 2026 Tavoletta d’Oro Awards with Criollo Chuao 70%
Domori once again stands out at the Tavoletta d’Oro Awards, winning for the second consecutive year the Gold Medal in the Best Single-Origin Dark Chocolate category with its Criollo Chuao 70% bar.
The award ceremony took place on Saturday, March 7, during the event “I Cioccolati del Mediterraneo”, held in the evocative setting of the Museo Archeoindustriale di Terra d’Otranto in Maglie, in the Salento region of southern Italy.
This recognition highlights one of the most distinctive elements of Domori’s history and production: Criollo cocoa, the rarest and most prized cocoa variety in the world, at the heart of the Criollo Project developed by Domori’s President Gianluca Franzoni since the company was founded in 1997. Domori has made a fundamental contribution to safeguarding the biodiversity of this precious variety through research and development carried out in its plantations in Venezuela and Ecuador.
Originally from Venezuela, Chuao represents one of the finest expressions of this extraordinary cocoa. It is distinguished by notes of hazelnut, dulce de leche, lucuma and mamey, combined with a light acidity, great sweetness and a unique aromatic roundness.
Now in its 24th edition, the Tavoletta d’Oro Awards are the most authoritative recognition dedicated to fine chocolate in Italy. Tasting evaluations are carried out using the official assessment sheets developed by the Compagnia del Cioccolato, the country’s leading association in the field, bringing together professional tasters, journalists, experts and gourmet enthusiasts. Over the course of the year, the association’s tasters analyzed more than 1,200 Italian chocolate products across 14 categories. After a rigorous selection process carried out by regional panels, only products scoring at least 85 points were admitted to the final stage.
Domori, based in None (Turin) and part of Polo del Gusto, continues to stand out for its commitment to research and to highlighting the finest cocoa varieties, confirming a production vision based on rigorous raw material quality, strict control of the supply chain, a short recipe and sensory precision.
With this new gold medal, Criollo Chuao 70% confirms its status not only as one of Domori’s iconic chocolate bars, but also as a benchmark in the world of single-origin dark chocolate.
